  • Biography

I have been deeply involved in the BMS since the early 80’s starting as an electrical apprentice with BT. Working on large commercial sites, I gained hands-on experience across all aspects of building operations.

In the 90’s I sought new challenge and joined Trend as a service engineer and over the next 27 years, progressed through the projects department, advanced to the management team, and then into a European role with Honeywell.

In 2017, I joined Synapsys Solutions as Sales and Projects Director. About 21/2 years ago, I was promoted to Managing Director as the company transitioned into an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT).

Outside work, my wife and I have had our hands full raising four children, one of whom has now gifted us two lovely grandchildren and one who has started to follow my footsteps having been an apprentice here at Synapsys and now moved on up to commissioning engineer.

    Andy’s objectives for the Association

Having been in the BCIA for years, initially with Trend and now Synapsys. I have always found it an essential information exchange amongst players in the market. It is the one forum where competitors can meet as relaxed colleagues talking about the market and supporting one another. This environment needs to be maintained as it is key to our success and growth of our common market.

Additionally, the work the BCIA is doing now, training young people and lobbying the government for legislation is essential to secure the future of many member companies. In my position now, I will have the time to be able to focus on supporting these efforts going forward and raising the profile of the BCIA.

Andy’s long-term aspiration through serving as a Committee Member

As above the 3 things I am most interested in are:

    • The provision of a safe environment where industry professionals can engage with each other and share best practice. It is great to see we are moving towards a full calendar of events with good engagement across the complete membership base.

    • The training of young people is key, but before we get to train them, we need to get them interested and I would like to have a mechanism in place that raises the profile of what we do and gets both parents and young people engaged and interested early.

    • Securing enough government interest to get them to agree with proposed industry legislation is always tricky. I would like to think that with the policy working group focused and consultants supporting us we can see significant changes to the profile of our industry by the end of the decade.
