Judges were invited to join the judging panel and selected based on their in depth BEMS industry knowledge. Judges are invited to ensure a balance of BCIA and Industry representation.

  • Stacey Lucas, Chair of Judges

    President, BCIA and Commercial and Marketing Director, Sontay

    Stacey is currently President of the BCIA and has worked for Sontay since 2001. Since then she has caught the ‘Building Controls Bug’ and is ever more excited about the new technologies embraced by the industry and the future that lies ahead.

    By working her way up through Customer Service and Sales, she has built long lasting relationships with many of their customers. The knowledge and insight learned over the years has given Stacey a brilliant knowledge base and high level of technical understanding of the building controls sector.

  • Jen Vickers

    Vice President, BCIA and Regional Information Manager, Crown House Technologies

    Jen is currently Vice President of the BCIA and has worked for Crown House Technologies which is part of Laing O’Rourke since 2015. She works within Enterprise Solutions who deliver specialist systems including BEMS and was originally appointed to oversee documentation nationally.

    She has also project managed the BEMS package on a number of projects and is keen to encourage new people into the industry by promoting the BEMS apprenticeship and T-level programmes.

  • Ron Purcell

    Management Committee Member, BCIA and Product Portfolio Manager, Siemens

    Ron is a controls professional with over 40 years of experience in BEMS.  Currently serving as Product Portfolio Manager at Siemens, he has held senior roles in technical consultancy, business development, and project management and as an engineer.

    Starting his career as an apprentice, Ron is passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of engineers. He is an Affiliate Member of CIBSE and actively contributes to industry development through training, technical publications, and standards.

    Outside of work, Ron enjoys scuba diving, hill walking, and volunteering in his local community.

  • Jon Belfield

    Managing Director, InTandem Systems

    Jon began his career in the Building Services sector after completing an apprenticeship in Machining and Fitting and earning a BSc in Engineering with Business Studies. Starting as a Sales Engineer with Landis and Gyr, he advanced to Senior Project Engineer and then diversified his controls experience across sectors including lighting, medical electronics, and automation. Identifying a market gap, Jon founded InTandem Systems Ltd, leading the company for over 35 years.

    He is a past President of BCIA, Fellow of CIBSE, CIBSE Council Member, Chartered Engineer, and has championed the professional development of future BMS Controls Engineers through various high-profile industry roles

  • Lee Benford

    Head of BMS Projects, Mitie

    Lee is Head of BMS Projects at Mitie Technical Services, responsible for delivering complex Building Energy Management System projects across commercial, public, and critical infrastructure sectors. With over a decade of experience in the controls and smart buildings industry, he has built his career on technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.

    Lee is passionate about digital transformation, sustainability, and developing the next generation of engineers within the UK controls sector. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, traveling, clay pigeon shooting, and visits to the driving range—even if his golf game could improve!

  • Michael Burgess

    Senior Digital Building Consultant, FPC Global

    Michael Burgess is a Senior Digital Building Consultant and technical leader with 17 years’ experience shaping the Smart Buildings sector. His work bridges traditional BMS with emerging technologies, driving adoption of FDD and Smart Building Platforms, and developing advanced digital building use cases for global clients.

    Beginning his career as an apprentice BMS engineer, he built expertise across the project lifecycle, from service and commissioning to technical sales and complex solutions. Michael is passionate about pioneering new technologies, mentoring others, and advancing data-driven practices to minimize the built environment’s impact on the planet.

  • Andy Camsell

    Technical Director, Novus Controls

    Andy has worked in the building services industry since 1986, starting as an air conditioning engineer and expanding his skills in installation, maintenance, and commissioning. He entered the BMS sector in the mid-1990s, taking on engineering and leadership roles with contractors, technology providers, and manufacturers, including as Technical Manager at Sontay. In 2006, Andy co-founded a control systems contracting business, serving as managing director until 2014 before moving into contract consultancy.

    Recent roles include managing EMEA critical systems environmental monitoring for a large investment bank and building services commissioning for a London research facility. He’s passionate about innovation and the convergence of sensing and IT within the IoT. Andy delivers BCIA’s training on behalf of Sontay Academy.

  • Caroline Fright

    Managing Director, Carbon Numbers

    Caroline Fright is the MD and co-founder of Carbon Numbers, leading the company’s strategy, operations, and growth. With a background in finance, policy, and organisational planning, she drives innovative, data-led energy management solutions that cut carbon, reduce costs, and enhance building performance. Caroline oversees key initiatives and upholds ISO-led governance, ensuring measurable results and high standards.

    Her people-focused leadership supports Carbon Numbers’ ongoing reputation as a trusted partner in building performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

  • Jo Harris

    UK&I Head of Technical Services, Sodexo

    Jo works in the central support team at Sodexo, focusing on developing best practice Hard FM across the UK&I region. She is responsible for promoting, programme managing, and embedding best practice in maintenance and technical services. With extensive experience in the Built Environment, Jo has authored industry guidance including recent updates to CIBSE Guide M and contributed to BSI Facilities Management standards.

    Her expertise spans facilities and asset management, project management, building services operation, controls, smart technology, maintenance strategy, statutory maintenance, health and safety, Soft Landings, wellbeing, and building performance. Jo is passionate about bridging construction and operations, best practice maintenance, and technology to enhance asset reliability.

  • Daniel Hartley

    Lead Engineer for Building Systems, Manchester Airports Group (MAG)

    Daniel is the Lead Engineer for Building Systems at Manchester Airports Group, overseeing Manchester, East Midlands, and Stansted airports. As a Chartered Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with CIBSE, he writes and maintains the Group BEMS design standard and provide technical assurance across projects. Daniel has hands-on experience leading BEMS upgrades and installations, including major transformation programs at Manchester and Stansted.

    Daniel is completing a Digital and Technology Solutions degree focused on BEMS data analytics. He is passionate about using BEMS and data analytics to drive organizational goals, especially decarbonisation and sustainability.

  • Steve Loughney

    Director, Forfend

    A senior business leader and expert in smart, sustainable infrastructure, Steve has a proven track record of helping clients drive value through solutions for wellbeing, smart buildings, and energy efficiency. He specialises in master systems integration, IoT, cyber security, sustainability, remote building management, data analytics, and wellbeing.

    Steve’s key strengths include business development, leadership, and people development. Formerly technical director at Siemens and SSE until 2021, Steve is now an independent consultant helping businesses make buildings smart and achieve decarbonisation goals. He supports the final assessments of BEMS apprentices through the end point assessment scheme.

  • Andy Reakes

    Chief Operating Officer, Joint Industry Board

    Andy Reakes is Chief Operating Officer of the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS), leading national initiatives to strengthen workforce competence, digital verification, and professional standards in the electrotechnical and built environment sectors. With over a decade of leadership in skills, certification, and industry collaboration, Andy has deep expertise in innovation, quality, and people development.

    He chairs the CSCS Smart Check development group, is a member of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) Management Committee, Director of The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership (TESP), and Vice President of the Electrical Industries Charity, reflecting his dedication to raising standards and supporting industry people and performance.

  • Josh Steel

    Chair, BCIA Young Engineers Network and Sales Manager, Electracom

    Josh Steel has worked in the BMS industry for over 12 years. He began as a BMS Installer during his apprenticeship and quickly moved into Service and Small Works, then Major Projects, eventually becoming a Project Manager. For the past two years, Josh has transitioned to Sales, where he see the rest of his career.

    There’s always something new to learn in this ever-evolving field, but his background has given him a well-rounded experience. In his role as YEN Chair, Josh is passionate about encouraging young people to enter the industry. He’s delighted to be on the judging panel.
