MY JOURNEY SO FAR
The question “How did you discover BMS or Controls?” generally gets the same answer:
“I just fell into it.”
The same is true for me.
I was introduced to the world of BMS during the search for my placement year from university when I met members of the InTandem team at a careers fair. I was attracted to the prospect of working at an SME due to the range of tasks I’d be able to undertake.
During my placement, I was given the opportunity to work on real projects early on, completing a wide range of tasks from panel building to pre-commissioning. I also took part in many BCIA activities and went on to win the BCIA Young Engineer of the Year award in 2026.
Due to the strong relationships that I built during my placement year, I have continued working at InTandem during my final year of my Bachelor's Degree and will continue during my Master's Degree, allowing my professional skills to develop alongside my academic achievement.
Working within an SME allowed me to experience many different elements of the BMS industry and allowed me to develop my real-world skills. Meeting members from InTandem at the careers fair introduced me to a vital industry that I never knew existed.
Let the journey continue...
