Sophie Lee, Digital Energy Technical Apprentice, Schneider Electric
Sometimes you don’t realise how much can change in just a couple of years. Two years ago, I finished my GCSEs. Today, I’m working towards becoming a BMS engineer and getting involved in an industry I’m genuinely excited to be part of.
I’m still at the beginning of my journey, but looking back already reminds me that you don’t need to have everything figured out from the start.
Your route may look completely different to someone else's, and that's the point. There is more than one way to build a career in Controls. 💡
Everyones path into controls is different - For me I started straight from school, but wherever or whenever you start there is always opportunities to learn and grow in the industry.
(2 years ago..) GCSEs - Triple Science, Computer Science, GCSE PE, Business

For me, I was lucky enough to have an introduction to the industry from a young age. Growing up around conversations about BMS and controls gave me an insight into an industry I may not have otherwise discovered.
I came straight from GCSEs into an apprenticeship, so my route has been quite different from others around me. But that's what I've come to appreciate, there's no single "right" way into this industry.
Whether you come from university, another career, an apprenticeship or, like me, discover it through someone close to you, there's always an opportunity to learn, grow and build your own path.
Your starting point doesn't define where you can end up.
