Apprentice of the Year Award 2026
Introduction
Awarded to the individual who best demonstrates the achievements gained through successful participation in an approved Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), building controls or related discipline apprenticeship (or degree level apprenticeship in a closely related field). This award recognises the value of training to our whole industry and the importance of continuous personal and professional development. The recipient will have also displayed a commitment to advancement in their building controls career and will be able to demonstrate broader industry engagement.
Criteria for entry:
Enrolled apprentice on a BEMS apprenticeship, building services or related disciplines (e.g. digital, data where there is a direct transfer of skills to BEMS and building controls)
Nominees must have completed at least 12 months of their apprenticeship
The judges will be looking for evidence of:
Achievements to date and how that is differentiating the apprentice from other.
Broader industry and business engagement for example company committees or industry networks (such as BCIA’s Young Engineers Network).
Application of knowledge.
Learning and application of broader concepts, for example sustainability, AI, innovation and how this is impacting their individual and/or business success.
Commitment to the course and the industry in general.
Supporting testimonial from a tutor, employer or similar.
