Young Engineers experience sustainable solutions in real-world scenarios
The Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) recently sent members of its Young Engineers Network (YEN) to Distech Controls’ new training facility in Birmingham – with attendees coming away inspired, informed, and better connected.
The event included a full day of learning, discussion and team-building, useful and eye-opening demonstrations of hardware and software platforms, and a facility tour that highlighted the company’s remarkable innovations and how it is applying sustainable solutions for its clients.
The inspiring and informative day closed with a social session at the NEC to cap off a truly energising experience for all the young engineers.
What the young engineers took away:
Sustainability insight – A Climate Fresk workshop helped them tackle real environmental challenges
Hands-on tech exposure – Real-world demonstrations of cutting-edge building management system (BMS) hardware and software were given
Confidence and connections – Attendees engaged in team exercises, sharing views, and networking with like-minded peers
Fresh thinking – A chance to step outside the everyday, to think differently, and explore industry-leading innovation
Employers also benefitted from:
More engagement – Boosted enthusiasm and commitment to personal and industry growth
Stronger talent – Engineers returning with sharper skills and broader understanding
Innovation mindset – Inspired individuals ready to bring forward-thinking solutions into the business
Josh Steel, Chair of the YEN, highlighted the importance of events such as this and underlined why giving the young engineers the opportunity to discover new technologies and approaches was absolutely crucial. He said: “A massive thank you to Distech Controls for hosting our event today. It was superb and we all came away with some key additional knowledge, built more confidence to engage and openly share our views, and an enthusiasm to continue to grow and develop. So, thanks again!”
